Mushrush Red Angusoffice

Ranch History

Kansas Flint Hills

Mushrush Red Angus has been in the cattle business for over 60 years and in the Red Angus business since 1982.  The ranch was originally started as a commercial Herford cow-calf operation in the early 1950’s by Bob and Oma Lou Mushrush.   Son Joe, and wife Connie, joined the operation in 1980 and added a stocker operation to the ranch.   Around that time, the ranch used its first Red Angus genetics to alleviate calving difficulty within the herd.  They also liked the Red Angus breed because of the consistency in color and size that the breed had to offer.  The ranch purchased some Red Angus females with the idea to raise bulls for their own use and slowly began selling a few bulls to other customers.   In 1999, the ranch held its first production sale with Beckton Red Angus, of Sheridan, WY, a founding Red Angus herd.  The ranch continues to hold the annual production sale every 4th Thursday in March and has increased the numbers of animals offered in the sale each year.  In 2009, Joe and Connie's oldest son, Daniel, and his wife Christine, moved back to the ranch, bringing with them the fourth generation to the Mushrush heritage.

Since its inception, the enterprise has grown to over 550 registered Red Angus females split between fall and spring calving herds as well as 500 commercial heifers developed and bred each year.
